Braille on pharmaceutical packaging
PTS has developed an innovative measuring system for fast and reliable measurements of Braille embossing on packaging. It is offered to manufactures of folding boxes to approve their product quality and their incoming goods inspection.
| Applications: - Check to see whether the embossed product name is correct
- Determine the height of the embossed dots
- Evaluate folding boxboard as to its suitability for embossing and converting
- Check the cutting and embossing tools
|
Check the product name
- The product name embossed in the carton is compared with the data in the corresponding pdf file to ensure that it is correct.
- Missing or supernumerary dots are detected and optically marked.
This means
- product safety within the meaning of section 10, subsection 1b, is documented and guaranteed,
- complaints are prevent,
- the cutting processes are optimised,
- optimum set-up of thee cutting tools.
The measurement process is characterised by
- simple and easy operation,
- clearly arranged display of results,
- quality output listings,
- storage of all quality information.
Precise height measurement of the embossed dots
In addition to evaluating the accuracy of the embossed Braille lettering on a package, the height of the individual embossed dots also constitutes a critical quality feature. Only if the embossed dots are high enough can a blind person feel them reliably enough to read. The embossed dots must therefore comply with a predefined minimum height. If the dots are too high, the surface of the board will be broken – an absolutely undesirable product flaw. The measuring technology used in the BrailleTester is capable of determining the height of the embossed dots clearly and unambiguously. Height measurement of the embossed dots (with display of minimum, maximum and mean)
- Maximum and minimum height settings possible (threshold values)
- Heights are displayed as greyscales
- Flawed embossing is colour-coded (when values drop below a minimum or exceed a maximum value)
This means
- the legibility of the embossed Braille lettering is guaranteed,
- the convertibility of the paperboard is tested,
- the settings of the cutting machine are optimised,
- the cutting die tools are designed and constructed for optimum performance
