Visual Impurities – Visually disturbing impurities in view

DOMASmultispec is being expanded with a new analysis module called “Visual Impurities.” It accurately detects and evaluates visually disturbing impurities in fiber-based materials. The algorithm developed in the VISOR project (49MF210120) uses a three-dimensional color space to comprehensively characterize visual impurities in terms of their type, color and morphology. They are then classified according to the 4evergreen Annex Visual Impurities decision tree, version February 2025. The results enable an objective, data-based assessment of the impact on recyclability and quantitative conclusions about its causes, such as coating components, printing inks or varnishes. Manufacturers, designers and distributors will benefit in the future from significantly improved transparency regarding foreign material components, which is directly integrated into the established DOMASmultispec system as the “Visual Impurities” analysis module.
