The tear resistance according to Elmendorf is determined according to DIN EN ISO 1974 and describes the force necessary to continue the tearing of a cut paper sample out of the sheet plane.
For this purpose, samples are cut in each direction (machine direction, cross direction). The test is carried out using 4 sheets per individual measurement. An average value is formed from 10 individual values per direction, which is given in mN.
