Paper for Recycling (PfR) – Utility value Calculator
This web application, developed as part of the completed INNO-KOM project IK-MF120064, demonstrates the basic operation of an utility value calculator and is limited to selected functionalities. Users can freely select any combination of the three most commonly used grades of recovered paper (1.02.00, 1.04.XX, and 1.11.00) and specify the mass fractions of the composition as desired. As an example, six suspension and paper properties of a laboratory sheet virtually formed from the grade mix are calculated, e.g. Schopper-Riegler, ash content, bending stiffness, opacity, SCT index and whiteness. However, a standard composition based on historical analysis results can also be selected for each type of recovered paper.

Calculation of fibre age and usage cycles – Reffibre calculation tool
The production and recycling cycles of the main paper sectors are interconnected in many ways. The quantification of the repeated use of materials is fundamental for Life Cycle Assessment. For this purpose, the Reffibre calculation tool was developed within the European research project 604187 „REFFIBRE - Tools for Resource-EFficient use of recycled FIBRE materials“.
Based on a simplified fibre flow diagram for the major paper sectors (graphic paper, packaging paper, sanitary/household paper and other paper and cardboard) and considering the amounts of virgin fibre consumption, migration of recycled paper and waste generation, the tool calculates for each paper sector:
the fibre age distribution or the number of future material uses of the paper products
the mean fibre age (MFA) or the mean number of future material uses (MNU) of the fibre population.
