Extract Content

The determination of the extract content can be carried out with different solvents, such as acetone (DIN EN ISO 14453), ethanol (T 204 cm-97) or dichloromethane (DCM).

This method can be used to determine the soluble components (depending on the extraction agent) in pulp or paper. The extract content is a sum parameter for the content of wood extractives (resin) and is determined gravimetrically. The residue can be further analyzed for its individual components, e.g. by IR or NMR spectroscopy.
