Internal bond strength (Scott type)
The determination of the Scott Bond splitting strength is carried out according to DIN ISO 16260 or TAPPI T 569 using the emco IBT Internal Bond Tester.
The value is an indicator of the process suitability of paper and board for printing and further processing. The gap strength correlates with other properties and parameters such as pulp grinding, machine speed and the ply bond of a multi-ply paper.
A sandwich of double-sided adhesive tape, the sample and another layer of double-sided adhesive tape is clamped between an aluminium plate and a metal angle and prepared under defined conditions (contact pressure time, contact pressure and type of adhesive tape).
A pendulum with a defined mass and speed strikes the metal angle and thus causes delamination of the paper sample in the Z direction. The absorbed energy is calculated and given in J/m². The number of measured values is 5 in each fibre direction (machine direction, cross direction).
