DIN ISO 11798 specifies requirements and test methods for evaluating the ageing resistance of typefaces, prints and copies on paper.

The test includes the following individual tests:

• Appearance of the characters
• Light fastness
• Water resistance
• Impression resistance (smearing)
• Abrasion resistance
• Heat resistance
• Influence of the inscription on the paper strength

Writing and printing devices that comply with this standard are very likely to produce durable characters that show little or no change over a very long storage period.
