The determination of charge type and charge density is carried out according to the PTS method PTS-RH 015/93 via polyelectrolyte titration.
The polyelectrolyte titration method is used to determine charged dissolved or charged colloidally dissolved oligomers and polymers, which are, for example, a measure of the impurity content in screen waters of paper mills or in filtrates of pulp suspensions. In addition, ionic polyelectrolytes such as dispersants, strength aids, wet strength agents, fixatives, retention agents, etc. can also be characterized with regard to their charge balance under different conditions (e.g. changed pH ranges).
