The Short-span Compression Test (SCT) in the plane of the sheet is defined as the maximum compression breaking force, related to a sample width, that the sample resists a specified compression.

The SCT is determined according to DIN 54518 with a Compression Strength Tester.

20 strips per direction (machine direction, cross direction) with a width of 15 (± 0.1) mm are cut and fastened in the test device between two clamping clamps. During the test, one pair of clamps moves towards the other at a defined speed. The maximum force of the specimen shortly before failure is recorded. The mean value in kN/m is calculated from 20 individual measured values.
